Want to play a Skirmish game online for free? Now you can! Use the:

RPG Skirmish Game

Designed by Winterstorm & Thorn Throat, Floortile Graphics by Amurayi
using the Vassal Engine by Rodney Kinney

Quickstart

To be able to play a skirmish game online follow these easy steps (or click HERE to read bshuggs easy to follow step-by-step guide) :

1. Download the Vassal Java Engine here: http://www.vassalengine.org/
If you don't have java installed yet, you will get some more infos about Java on the Vassal Webpage. The archived version of Vassal doesn`t work with the mod though. Just click the Launch button and it should download the latest version for you). On XP this may not work tho, (Java error messages). The solution is to download the launcher (right click - save target as) and then launch it again.

2. Download the RPG Skirmish mod from one of those sites:

Hosting the Mod Version 1.0:
MIRROR 1 ZIP
MIRROR 2 ZIP
MIRROR 3 ZIP
MIRROR 4 RAR
MIRROR 5 RAR
MIRROR 6 ZIP

3. Unzip or unrar the mod. Start Vassal by either activating the mod itself or hitting the LAUNCH Vassal button on http://www.vassalengine.org/. Choose a name and password (can be changd in preferences later). Hit PLAY then browse through your folders to select the mod.

4. You can either start a new game to play around with it offline now. Or you can choose to connect to the Vassal servers by hitting the CONNECT button (two arrows in upper left corner). The Connection window will pop up in upper right corner. Hit Connect here again. Voilá... you'll see the active rooms. You will always start in the mainroom.

5a. Watching a game: Join a room by clicking on it or by rightclick on the room name and choosing JOIN ROOM. If you are the third player you will automatically be the observer. To watch what's going on you need to synchronize on one of the active players. To do this right click his name in the rightmost window and choose SYNCHRONIZE. You should see the battlefield now. You won't be able move units but you can chat to everyone in the room.

5b. Start a game: Create a new room by simply writing a room name in the CREATE ROOM field. You will be automatically transferred to the rooom. Click NEW GAME under FILE. Once other players come in, ask them to synch on you. Note: Even if you hit LOOKING FOR PLAYERS (indicated with a "!") other people won`t see it until they open your room.

6. Don't forget: There are no stats or gamerules in the mod. So you need your rulebook from the Entry pack or the Miniatures Handbook and of course your miniatures cards to play. Have fun!
